Claymation and stopmotion animation offers students a creative medium through which to showcase learning and develop digital literacy. Claymation videos can be a powerful digital media tool to demonstrate understanding of a range of topics. This workshop will focus on exploring the process through which a 5th & 6th grade class created stopmotion animated movies to provide anti-bullying messages to younger students.

In collaborative teams, students were challenged to apply what they’d learned during Guidance classes and a 3rd-6th grade anti-bullying initiative to create movies for a target audience of 1st & 2nd graders which would provide a clear message about bullying issues such as; forms of bullying, the power of the bystander and how to stop bullying. This project required students to expand and apply ELA and digital media knowledge gained throughout the year to create a short narrative script, compose a storyboard, create characters/props/background, use iPads to shoot scenes using Stopanimator, edit and add dialogue in iMovie, and publish to YouTube.
