This workshop on using the new science standards to connect the classroom to the community will present how an award winning Bio-Diesel project transformed the school and the community. Students are using the New Generation Science Standards on Engineering Design as it applies to research topics of students’ interest, from sustainability to climate change, and many other topics. The presentation will include over 25 different electronic posters, guiding the audience to replicate the research plan, identify the hypothesis or outcomes and differentiate between engineering design and scientific method. Technology and literacy are part of this complex science fair project, starting with writing the abstract and ending with data presentation. All students’ work was done in electronic format, using poster templates and printed.
